Generally it is recommended to complete the under graduate course that is graduation through regular colleges. External courses may be done at PG level.

The difference is that a regular college is affiliated to some university.On the other hand ,the centres for coaching for external exams offer coaching, maintaining contacts with a university and getting the students ready for an eligibilty to write the exam.
