What are the requirements to get a job as a lecturer in India?

Hello, Industry experience of 10 years is quite a valuable asset to be a lecturer. Your experience will surely benefit the students to a great extent. Most of the top universities (private and government) and some of the deemed universities have a strict norm that a lecturer needs to have a Ph.D degree. However, there may be some colleges/universities which may allow you to be a lecturer provided, you complete Ph.D while teaching in the college. Most of the colleges require a Master's degree at least to qualify for a lecturer profession. My personal suggestion would be to complete Master's degree while working in the IT sector. Then you can join a college as a lecturer on a condition that you will complete Ph.D via the same college in a pre-decided timeframe. I hope this answers your question.

Hello, Being the lecturer in India's top engineering colleges like IITs, or NITs, is not an easy task. You have to be 'Doctorate' in that field. It means that at least you need to have P.hD in your area of specialization. If you have 10 years of industrial experience, then it is absolutely fine (as this is also the requirement), but your degree is not enough. The basic eligibility criteria for professor, is 10 years of teaching/research/industrial experience of which 4 years should be at the level of associate professor. Candidate should have doctoral degree in that area. And, as per the Indian Government norms, you must have the first class or equivalent in the preceding degree.

Hello, To become a Lecturer in College, you must have completed Master’s Degree program and must have qualified the examination with not less than 55% marks, if you belong to General Category. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category must have scored minimum of 50% marks in the same. After qualifying the Master’s Degree examination with aforementioned percentage of marks, you will have to apply for National Eligibility Test. This test is conducted by University Grant Commission, and those who do not qualify this test are not considered eligible to apply for the Lecturers position in any recognized university or college located anywhere in India. The National Eligibility Test is to be taken in the subject in which you have expertise and have pursued your Master’s Degree program. The test is conducted two times a year.

In order to encourage engineering graduates to pursue Ph.D. CSIR NET is being extended to engineering students by introducing a sixth paper in engineering sciences which will be common to all areas of engineering disciplines from December, 2012. The eligibility criteria (educational qualification) for writing the test will B.E. / B.Tech or equivalent in engineering with at least 55% marks for general/OBC and 50% marks for SC/ST, Physically and visually handicapped candidates. Students in the 4th year of the programme will also be eligible to apply. You are advised to clear CSIR NET exam and do Ph.D. to start teaching career. Thank you.

It is difficult to get a lecturers’ job in university with BE educational qualification even with 10 years IT experience. As per UGC guidelines lecturers’ minimum educational qualification is PhD in computer science or information technology. Hello, To become a lecturer, you must have to full fill the criteria as given below Firstly, you have to confirm the stream or subject in which you want to become a lecturer. Once you confirm it then pursue the postgraduation as it is the minimum eligibility criteria to become a lecturer. Then you have to appear in a competitive exams named UGC NET. The National Testing Agency conducts the UGC NET Exam for selecting the candidates for the post of Assistant Professor. So, once you qualify this exam, the officials will provide you the valid Certificate that will confirm your eligibility to apply for lectureship in various colleges and institutes. The college where you apply for the post of Assistant Professor will take an interview. If you successfully clear all these stages, then finally you will become a lecturer. I hope it helps!
