As a manager one will broadly perform following activities- Coordinating, directing, controlling, staffing, planning, organizing. So based on these functions one should develop team player skills, decision making skills, analytical thinking, communication- interpersonal skills, long term perspective etc. Most importantly gathering knowledge of self and his or her domain with overall business knowledge. Its the knowledge which will help you decide to know your strengths and weaknesses and will help you understand the skills needs to be developed, which will help you in the long run.
