What basic things should one know if he/she wants to do computer science and engineering?

For CSE, you just have some basic knowledge of computer like input output hardware software etc. It is not necessary that you have some knowledge of Programming languages, because you can learn them later. Most important thing is that you have some interest in this field or have some desire.

Some things that I think a Computer Science Engineer should know are:- Our branch has a very high demand among aspiring engineers in engineering colleges. A large number of computer Science engineers graduate every year. Hence the industry has a huge supply of job seeking engineers and there would be a tough competition when you apply for jobs. Concentrate on a particular domain that interests you such that nobody can beat you in that domain. Studying your subjects very hard can only take you up to interviews. Improve your communication skills and participate in group discussions. Have a basic idea about the work culture of the company you are interested to work in. Know about Sprint, Agile methods etc. Participate in Hackathons. Whether you win or loose is not important. The sheer Hackathon experience is great. Do not ignore any subject. Know your basics. It may come handy sometime. If you have even the slightest interest in getting into research or are interested in pursuing Masters, then say hello to your dear old pal Mathematics.
