Your quality in the Subject is important for a career. You have to do your PG and Ph.D in a Pure Science like Physics and you have to make Research Publications. You have to attend Seminars, Symposia and Work Shops.

To be a Physics professor you should have MSc and MPhil or PhD. Clearance of UGC NET/Lectureship examinations will be an advantage for doing a PhD. You may begin your career as an Assistant Professor and move up the ladder as you gain experience.
