An atom itself is made up of three tiny kinds of particles called subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. The protons and the neutrons make up the center of the atom called the nucleus and the electrons fly around above the nucleus in a small cloud. The electrons carry a negative charge and the protons carry a positive charge. In a normal (neutral) atom the number of protons and the number of electrons are e

John Dalton proposed theory regarding atomic structure in 1800s. He proposed that atom is the ultimate particle of the matter. The term atom is derived from the Greek word a-tomio meaning indivisible. It means that atom is the particle which cannot be further divided. Neutrons. According to John all the atoms of a particular matter have same properties. Atoms of different matters are different in mass whereas atoms of same given matter having same mass. When different atoms combine in fixed ratio compound formed.
