Dear Najah Jabir,
After doing Diploma engineering, we can get direct admission in 2nd year of engineering through LEET exam which is conducted by each state university and some deemed universities. It is because the subject we study in the first year of engineering are already studied by Diploma students and that's why they can get admission in the 2nd year. -
What happened in this is if you are having a Diploma degree and want to go for graduation, then you can go for B.Tech (lateral entry) procedure in which you will get admission in B.Tech and supposed to study from 2nd year of B.Tech rather than starting from first year. So, this is the benefit for Diploma holders who want to go for B.Tech as a graduation.

Hello, A lateral entry student is the one who directly enters into the second year of his engineering. He/she must have completed a Diploma in their respective branch to be eligible for the lateral entry programme. After completing the Diploma, he/she writes a special examination for enrollment in an institute.

Lateral Entry in B.Tech only means that you will be admitted directly in the 2nd year. It is for Diploma holders and B.Sc. Graduates in the same field. The process is not very complex as you might think. For some colleges, you will have to give entrance exams as is for normal entry. You take admission in the 2nd year after getting a college or just reaching a college that takes admission without entrance. The only thing that is worth noticing is that you will have to give exams for some first-year subjects and pass them.
