<p>In the M.A. in Disaster Studies at JNU, you study various aspects of disaster management, including governance and legal frameworks, human health and well-being, social sciences, and technology systems. The course structure is designed around four rubrics: </p> <ol> <li>Governance and Legal framework: Instruments for Disasters, Relief and Response </li> <li>Human Health and Well-being: Public Health, Epidemiology and Emergency Preparedness </li> <li>Social Science: Geography, Anthropology and Economics, Risk Resilient Communities </li> <li>Technology Systems: geospatial, computational intelligence &amp; database systems </li> </ol> <p>The program includes core courses and elective courses, such as: - Summer internship - Fieldwork - Early Warning Systems and Computational Intelligence - Disaster Challenges for Vulnerable Populations - Disaster and Gender Concerns - Ecosystem Approach for Disaster Risk Reduction - Human Security and DRR - Humanitarian Aid and Disasters - Universe of Disaster Research: Theory, Ethics and Trans-disciplinarity - Disaster Economics, Project Management, Emergency Budgeting - Environment, Climate Change and Occupational Health - Disaster Risk Reduction </p> <p>The research focus areas include understanding how disasters affect development, national resources, and human and non-human lives, as well as the need for ecologically sensitive land use policies.
