In a circular issued to colleges earlier this week, the university stated that students will need to secure at least 40% internal assessment to be eligible to write the semester examination. It also mentions that the minimum CIE (continuous internal evaluation) marks for practical/mini project, internship, and technical seminar should be 50% to be eligible to write the semester examination. It is possible to fail the internals and pass the externals, although this is largely dependent on luck and the evaluators.
The minimum required external score is 35/100, while the VTU passing grade is 50/125. Therefore, even if you receive a total score of 25 in the internal exams and 30 in the external exams, which is higher than the passing standard of 50, you will still receive a failing grade.
