In case you are not allotted the city of your choice in GATE, the authorities organizing GATE will allocate you an alternative city to write gate; in most cases, this would be one of your other choices, though a different city in the same zone. This is done when a specific city has been over-chosen

If the candidate's selected choice of city is unavailable, then the organising IIT will assign an alternative centre in the nearest possible city within the same zone.
