A surgical technologist is also commonly known as a scrub, scrub tech, or surgical scrub. These terms all refer to the same role within the operating room team.
The title scrub or scrub tech comes from the practice of scrubbing in and wearing sterile attire during surgical procedures to maintain a sterile environment. Additionally, surgical technologists may be referred to simply as techs in some healthcare settings.
