The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), headquartered in London aims to bridge the gap between accountancy and management. The need for international management accountants is on the rise with the increasing presence of international players in India. CIMA is a membership body that offers an internationally recognised professional qualification in management accountancy. CIMA has distance learning programmes and offers three kinds of qualifications: CIMA Certificate in Basic Accounting, CIMA Professional Qualification, and CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting. Those who have qualified from ICWAI (The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India) have several career options, as all business organisations require their services. A qualified ICWA can work with a practicing cost accountant, or be employed in a cost accountancy firm. There are also openings in financial institutions, government departments, banks- both public sector and private, insurance companies, international organisations, multinational companies, industry - both private and public sector, investment companies and so on. CIMA is not a progression of ICWA but is a globally recognised qualification and so is useful for global placements too. ERP consultants in finance functions are usually CAs. There is also a need for CAs in firms where ERP in financial solutions are in implementation.
