What is enterprise Java?

Enterprise Java unifies a group of application programming interfaces (APIs) and application servers that execute those APIs to facilitate the creation of large-scale software applications in Java. Complementary technologies, such as the Spring Framework, are also part of Enterprise Java. Enterprise Java Beans (EJB), Java Message Service (JMS), Java Persistence API (JPA), Java Transaction API (JTA), and Java Server Faces (JSF) are all part of a larger suite of modular tools that facilitate distributed computing via containers, web services, and high performance applications for businesses. Today's enterprise apps are often built in Java, and they leverage microservices rather than a monolithic architecture. Enterprise Java is widely used in sectors like public administration, telecommunications, banking IT, finance, and commerce online.

Enterprise Java is the use of Java for application development in enterprise scale software. It blends a collection of APIs and application servers that implement those APIS. Enterprise Java also includes related technologies like the Spring Framework. Enterprise Java Beans (EJB), Java Message Service (JMS), Java Persistence API (JPA), Java Enterprise Java refers to Java applications written for enterprises, the leading technology here is Java EE which consists of a set of APIs and the application servers Glassfish, Tomcat, JBoss/WildFly, etc., which implement these APIs. But Enterprise Java is not strictly restricted to Java EE, someone using Spring Framework for example is still an Enterprise Java programmer.
