Hello Vinod, IELTS is an exam for English Proficiency needed for pursuing higher education in overseas countries. While there is no passing score but as it has Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking evaluated out of 9 Bands(on a scale of 0.5) comprehensively & individual too, one needs to have a 6.0+ atleast for Undergrad education(after 12th) & 6.5+ for Masters or higher keeping individual sections too 5.5+ & 6.0+ respectively.
The IDP & British Council are co owners for IELTS.

8 years agoDear Vinod, IELTS is an English language testing system, it consists of 4 parts, Speaking, Listening, Reading & writing. The scores are given in bands least being 1 band and highest 9, each section is scored individually and also an overall score is given, there is nothing called a passing score and as Nidhi has already mentioned the minimums are as per the course/ college being applied for requires.
