    IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), Delhi which was established as College of Engineering in 1961is now the Institution of National Importance and is amongst the twenty-three IITs created to be Centres of Excellence. The institute is now a Deemed University with more than 48000 students graduating since its inception. Out of these nearly 5070 students have received their PhDs and its alumni work today as scientists, technologists, business managers or have even taken up administrative services or are active in politics.
