What is Information Technology?

Information technology (IT) is the application of computers to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. Information technology is defines as "the study, design, development, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems". IT is considered a subset of information and communications technology (ICT). The term is commonly used as a synonym for computers and computer networks. Several industries are associated with information technology, including computer hardware, software, electronics, internet, telecom equipment, e-commerce and computer services There are multiple job opportunities available in the field of IT. As per NASSCOM Indian IT Industry revenues grew by 13% in FY2015 and it added 2,30,000 employees in FY15. NASSCOM has forecasted that IT industry exports will grow by 12-14% and domestic market by 15-17% in FY2016. It is an excellent career opportunity or choice for students.
