What is mass communication? What is journalism? What is mass media? How are all three inter-related?

As this question is posted in this category of mass communication, it seems to inquire about the prospects as well as awareness about the three different terms buy identical in nature when it comes to mass media studies. Mass communication is understood as the communication done with the masses through various modes and medium of communication. It does cover all forms of media, including new media. Journalism is sharing of information via defined channels/platforms/media. It also involves the collection, selection, and assimilation of news to masses. Mass media has to be taken as identical to mass comm. When we see the objectives we call the assimilation as mass communication, when we see the tool, we call it mass media. In India, as well abroad, the courses might be running under different nomenclature at the UG level buy basically these remain the same meaning titles only. There might be some specialisation in one of these but that is part of the curriculum and does not depend on the titles. These three are interrelated because they run through the same segment of humanities and social sciences. Besides, most of the universities offer the same curriculum under different headings.

Mass Communication deals with the process of conveying or delivering a message to the general population through various media channels like radio, newspapers, magazines, television, internet and so on. However, Journalism is concerned with the compilation and transmission of news through the print media and electronic media. The circulation of information to a wide range of population remains the key function of mass communications whereas journalism requires investigation and coverage of any incident, occurrence or contemporary affairs, through mass media like the print, television or any new channel media, whereby Lacs of people all through the world may be able to know what is happening all over the world. Journalism is the initial step in mass communication, any news must be first reported in the proper format. Raw news and information available in the society must be analyzed properly and then must be converted into the form so that it can be transmitted to all the viewers. Good communication skills are must either it is verbal/written form.

Hello! As its name signify, mass communication is the process or technique through which you can set up the communication channel with the large part of the group (I.e., mass). Mass communication involves the activities of film-making, radio journalism, etc. Mass Media: The medium (or say media) by which you can get connected with the large group of people to exchange the views are called mass media. Journalism: It is a science that transmits the information through writing or through digital media. The journalism is a collection and editing of news for presentation through the media, tha major activity involved is the public press. They all are inter-related by the involvement of public at the large scale. Mass communication is the communication of information from a person, small group of people, or an organisation to a large group of heterogeneous and anonymous people. Simply, it is a mode of communication that reaches mass audience, e.g. - advertising and PR. Journalism is the activity or profession of writing for newspapers, magazines, or news websites or preparing news to be broadcast. And the person who does that, is a journalist. Mass media is a media and the technologies that help to reach large audiences via mass communication. In simple terms, it is a technology to reach large audiences. For example- Radio, Television and Newspapers. These three are inter related to communication. With the combined use of all these, one can communicate and connect with large group of people (masses). Say, a journalist gathers some information, he/she then advertises and then it reaches the masses via radio, television, etc. Their interrelation helps us to get information all around the globe instantly, easily and efficiently.
