S-Block elements refer to elements in Group 1 and Group 2 of the periodic table namely, the alkali metals and alkaline earth metals. These include elements like lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. They are called s-block because their outermost electrons occupy the 's' orbital. These elements are highly reactive, especially with water, and are essential in understanding basic chemical behavior. You'll often encounter them early in inorganic chemistry in Class 11. Their simplicity, high reactivity, and biological importance make them fundamental to learning both physical and inorganic chemistry.
