Texas State University is the fifth-the largest university in Texas and the 28th-the largest institution of higher learning nationwide. U.S. president Lyndon B. Johnson, who attended Texas State University when it was known as the Southwest Texas State Teachers College, is its most prominent alumni. The university buildings total more than 8 million gross square feet, and its campuses span over 600 acres of land in addition to an additional 4,000 acres of agricultural, research, and recreational land.
