What is the age criteria to apply for the Indian Air Force? What are the other eligibility requirements?

If you are willing to join IAF after class 12th, then you need to give NDA exam, only then you can get admission in National Defense Academy. Otherwise, you can still can get the admission in Indian Air Force flying branch by various other ways like Short Service Commission, Combined Defense Service Examination, and National Cadet Crops. However, the basic eligibility criteria to get a job in IAF is different for different designations. Candidate applying for NDA should be between 17 years to 19 years, and for graduated student, it should be between 19 years to 23 years. Apart from that, you should be able to fly for the long hours. CDSE (Combined Defence Services Examination) (for Men only) Men can enter through this mode of entry and will get a Permanent Commission. Eligibility criteria: Age: 20 to 24 years (at the time of commencement of course). Nationality Indian: Marital Status-Single Gender-Man Educational Qualifications: Graduate (three-year course) in any discipline from a recognised University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level)/BE/B.Tech (four-year course). Final year/semester students are also eligible to apply, provided they produce degree certificate issued by the university as per the date stipulated in the advertisement. No percentage bar for CDSE entry. Advertisement Schedule: Advertisements are released by UPSC in the months of November and August. SSC (Short Service Commission) Entry (for Men and Women). You can apply through AFCAT for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the flying branch. Short Service Commission in flying branch is for 14 years with no further extension. Nationality-Indian Marital Statu-Single Gender-Men and Women Educational Qualifications: A minimum of 60% marks each in Maths & Physics at 10+2 level. Graduates (three-year course) in any discipline from a recognised university for who have attained a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or BE/B.Tech (four-year course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. Final year students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any backlog at the time of AFSB Testing and produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement. One can join the Indian Air Force as an officer in the flying, technical or the ground duty branches depending on his/her educational qualification. Details as follows: (a) Flying Branch: Recruitment to flying branch is by NDA and CDS examination conducted by UPSCIAF also hires pilot through AFCAT examination. NDA examination is after 10+2 in Science stream with age between 16.5 to 19 years. CDS and AFCAT requires graduation degree in Science. Age requirement is from 19 to 24 years. (b) Technical Branch: Selection is based though AFCAT and University Entry Scheme. Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical etc. Engineering graduates are eligible for seeking job in IAF Technical branch. Age limit is 24 years (c) Ground Duty Branch: It consist of Administration, Accounts, Logistics, Education, Meteorology etc. Selection is based on AFCAT. The candidates have to be 20 to 24 year old.

Indian Air Force is one of the wings of Indian Army which is responsible for the security of our country and we are really proud of our army. Indian Air Force is ranked 4th in the world. For joining this reputed field, one can apply in different ways: 1. Joining Air Force through National Defense Exam. This is a exam for class 12th pass student with at least 50% marks and maths as a subject. This exam is only for boys. This exam contains two papers, GS and mathematics. The age of a student does not exceed 19 years for NDA exam. The exam is organized by the UPSC. There are a few medical requirements for this exam for details about these requirements visit the official website. 2. CDS Combined Defense Exam. This is another way to join IAF if not possible through NDA. This exam is for graduation passed candidate with 50% marks. This exam contains three papers namely general science, English and mathematics. This exam is also organized by UPSC and only for boys. The age limit is not more than 25 years. 3. NCC National Cadet Corps Special EntryThis is a special entry for the students into IAF. As an Air Wing Senior Division C Certificate holder of the NCC, you can apply to the flying branch of the Indian Air Force. They get a direct call for SSB. The age must be less than 25 years. 4. AFCAT: This is one of the biggest exams to joining any of the three wings of Indian Army. This exam is both for boys and girls. This exam is for the graduate-level students. Hello, Indian Air Force recruits Indian Citizens as an officer or as an airman. Airmen are recruited after successful completion of the class 12th examination. The only exception is when musicians are to be recruited. So the age has been fixed as when an Indian can pass his 12th + two more years. Officers are recruited either after 12th or after graduation. In both these cases, the entrance examination is conducted by UPSC. One is for entry into NDA while the other is called as CDS. After a successful exam, shortlisted candidates are sent to Air Force Selection Centre for an elaborate examination that lasts a week. After this hurdle, medical examination. Those who go through all these steps are then put on merit list and called up depending on the vacancy. There are no reservations of any kind to join armed forces. The recruitment of engineers and doctors follow a little different path. All this can be read in detail on the webpage of IAF dedicated for only this.

Opportunities to join Indian Airforce – 1. NDA Exam- Aspirants who have just passed the 12th class, or are appearing in 12th class and have their ages in the range of 16 -19 years can apply for NDA examination. 2. CDS - Combined Defence Services is the entry that gives you the opportunity to join Indian Air force Academy after graduation. The age group as mentioned is 20-24 years and candidates having maths and physics in 12th class can apply for it. 3. AFCAT - AFCAT provides a gateway to GDOC, flying branch, technical field. The age limit for flying branch is 20-24 years while candidates having a commercial pilot license (CPL) issued by DGCA have an upper limit for applying for flying branch is 26 years. For ground duty and technical branch, it is 20-26 years. 4. University Entry Scheme is another entry for air force aspirants which are looking for the technical branch. The age limit for UES is 20-26 years and B.Tech or B.E student appearing in the pre-final year are eligible for this entry.
