I think the tag of a top tier college is the one factor that attracts the good companies, but finally, it is up to the student's concepts and aptitude for the engineering that makes the difference in the package.

Well, there are huge placements differences between any top college and an average college because companies consider they will get the best students there. But everytime its not like that, there are many examples where a student from a below average college outperformance the students from top-notch institutes. So in the end it depends upon your interest and your passion to do great in your stream.
