Assam University is a well-known university in Silchar, Assam. The University was established in 1994 by the provisions of an act enacted by the Parliament of India. The foundation of the University was laid by the people's struggle in Barak Valley. AU is recognised by the UGC, AICTE and AIU. The university is accredited by NAAC.
AU consists of 42 departments under these sixteen schools. The five districts under the jurisdiction of Assam University facilitates 70+ UG colleges.
