The University of Calicut was established in 1968 by bifurcating the University of Kerala. It is the second university in Kerala and is the largest university in the state. The university was created by taking four post-graduate departments and 54 constituent colleges from the University of Kerala. Calicut University is ranked 70th by NIRF 2023 under the University (Overall) category. Globally, the University of Calicut is ranked 106 by the QS Asian University Rankings - Southern Asia category 2024 and 401-450 by the QS Asian University Rankings 2024.
