Plastics industry is in major demand and majority of research is focused on developing new polymers. Plastics are literally everywhere you look. Some plastics called engineering plastics are specially used because of their excellent properties. They are good replacement for metals as they are easy to use, cheap and can be prepared easily. So I would suggest if you want pursue career in polymer field go ahead don't look back. In this field you can start your own company. Do a career in research. You can work in marketing also. The payscale will be high enough as you gain experience.
