What is the career growth for an IBPS PO?

IBPS PO has an excellent career path, and career growth is determined based on merit. IBPS PO is a scale I officer (assistant manager) and normally becomes a manager (scale II officer) after 34 years. Promotion happens through a written exam and interview. From bank to bank, there is a slight variation in the time and process of promotion, but fast-track promotion opportunities are there in almost every bank. Being a generalist, the PO gets the opportunity to work in various areas like operations, credit, foreign exchange, investment banking, risk management, auditing, etc. Banks conduct internal exams for postings in investment banking and foreign offices. An IBPS PO's career advancement is rapid. One can get a promotion every 35 years, depending on the number of vacancies in the bank. The promotion grades are a manager (Scale II), senior manager (Scale III), chief manager (Scale IV), AGM (Scale V), DGM (Scale VI), and GM (Scale VII). The GOI (Government of India) then appoints the Executive Director, Chairman, and Managing Director (CMD). Almost all EDs and CMDs of banks started their careers as POs. A few selected ones also get a chance to become Deputy Governors (DGs) in the RBI, as one of the four DG posts is for a commercial banker.
