    I would agree with Aru that .Phil is just like a pre- doctorate degree and mostly the people who want to take up Research or teaching as a profession will opt for this degree.

    M.Phil. is a special research degree and only awarded by selected departments of a university (mostly in the fields of Arts, Social Sciences, Archeology, Philosophy and Theology).After finishing these programs, students normally enroll for a PhD program. So an M.Phil course is a pre -doctorate degree course which is mainly based on research.
    The career scope varies for different specializations. However, the salary part is definitely better as compared to master degree holders.
