    To qualify UGC NET exam, candidates need to meet the basic eligibility criteria and the selection conditions. The minimum eligibility criteria for general category students is to secure atleast 40% aggregate marks in Paper I and Paper II combined. Along with this, candidates also need to obtain minimum marks in each paper (Paper I and Paper II) as well as aggregate marks in the specific subject. The top 6% of the total candidates who have appeared in both the exam and are NET qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only.     a) Minimum marks: Candidates need to secure the minimum qualifying marks in both paper 1 and paper 2 to qualify for the exam. General category candidates must score 40 per cent aggregate marks in both papers. OBC NCL, SC, ST, and PWD category candidates have to secure 35 per cent aggregate marks in both papers
