    Hi,
The GATE cut off depends upon various factors like Total number of applicants, No of available seats, difficulty level of GATE paper, previous year cut off etc. For getting admission in prestigious colleges like IITs, NITs and GFTIs your GATE score should above 600 if belongs to general category.

    Well,
Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering is somehow necessary for core branches like mechanical, civil, electrical for PSUs or doing M.Tech from a better college.
You can give 2 attempts of it after doing a Bachelor degree. Then, on the basis of SSC HSC UG grades and GATE score, you will get rank. If you get a good rank under 500, you will get a call from PSUs or else you will go for M.Tech.
