Selection to the Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at NISER is through fulfilling the education requirement and national exam performances, such as GATE, JEST, GPAT, CSIR NET, or ICMR JRF. These shortlisted candidates have to face a written test and/or interview.

To be eligible for the Ph.D. program, candidates need a Master's degree with 55% marks in related fields. Alternatively, a four-year Bachelor's degree with 75% marks can also be considered. Besides meeting the cut-off marks in the entrance exam, applicants must also score a minimum mark in each subject. Online applications are submitted via the NISER website.

Ordinarily, the higher the candidate ranks in JAM BT in the top few hundred in the General category, the greater the prospects of this candidate getting an interview call.
