What is the definition of current?

Hi Aditya,
The current is defined as the rate of flow of charges across any cross sectional area of a conductor.
I=q/t. q (charge) is in coulomb and t (time) is in seconds.
The current I is expressed in ampere. It is a scalar quantity (only magnitude).
The instantaneous current is given by:
i=dq/dt
