Work experience is thought to be only for those at school, who are perhaps told to get “experience” in year ten or eleven.

Interns are freshers, who do on job training to complete their curriculum requirement. Some educational institutes even extend support to freshers for providing internship in organizations. Usually Interns get stipend & its counted as Internship, not work ex.
