What is the difference between B.Sc in biotechnology and B.Tech in biotechnology? Which is a better course to pursue?

Ask yourself the question, where do you want to see yourself 6 years from now. Choose a course that aligns with your long-term goals. A B.Tech degree in biotechnology exposes you to both the biological sciences as well as the chemical engineering principles involved in biotechnology. This degree gives students the skill sets required to find jobs in labs and industries alike. Since B. Tech is a 4-year course which is equivalent to engineering. , It provides more hands-on experience, with their respective domains and specialisation. Major institutions like IIT’s, MIT, SRM, VIT, Amity, LPU and many more provide B.Tech options. This course will provide more practical knowledge through a compulsory internship which starts after 4 semesters. Apart from pharmaceutical and biotech companies, you can get a job in TCS, Infosys, IBM, HCL, HP, ONGC etc. A B.Sc degree, on the other hand, focuses more on the biological sciences aspect of biotechnology. Yes, there will be a few subjects (1 or 2) related to industrial processes but the main emphasis will be on R&D in biological sciences fields such as cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics etc. It is 3-year degree which focuses on honing your theories and concepts and prepares you to carry in-depth research. Now, what is your future goal? Do you want to pursue a research career in areas such as stem cells, genetic engineering, plant biotechnology, molecular biology? If yes, choose B.Sc and M.Sc biotechnology or B.Sc biotech and M.Sc in any specialized field of biotech that you are interested in. You can then later on pursue your PhD if interested. If you want to a take up a professional job and keep your options open, then go for B.Tech Biotechnology. Many B.Tech students who do not find jobs in biotech sector shift to software, management etc. So, this is an added bonus for you and this kind of transition will be tougher with a B.Sc and M.Sc degree in biotechnology.

B.Sc. In Biotechnology deals with basic and applied aspects of all fields of biotechnology, especially human health. It is a baseline for M.Sc. That may culminate in a Ph.D. B.Tech course deals mostly with the engineering and applied aspects of the field. If you are looking for best university for B.Tech Biotechnology and B.Sc. Biotechnology, course, I would say Lovely professional University is best University to pursue this course. Lovely Professional University is best for pursuing B.Tech in Biotechnology. If you re looking for quality education, good placements, exposure, academics then LPU is right place, it has all.
