What is the difference between computer Science and IT ?

Computer Science engineers are involved in many aspects of computing, from the design of individual microprocessors, personal computers and supercomputers to circuit designing and writing software that powers them. Information Technology deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to store, protect process, transmit and securely retrieve data. IT professionals perform a variety of tasks that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. The major difference between both these field is that IT deals with the application of computing technology to real life processes, while, Computer Science deals with the Science that facilitates these applications. To make it short and simple, Computer Science is the creation of software and hardware by using different programming skills. On the other hand, IT is just the selection of the proper software or hardware for the task.

Abhi, Computer Science course covers almost all theoretical areas in information and computation. The course will enable the students to enter in to the Software Application, service, Sales and Marketing, operations and even work as a programmer. Information technology mainly focuses on the study of the use of computers and telecommunications to recover, store and transfer information. This can be in various forms like text, images, sound, multimedia, etc. The B.Tech Information Technology covers mainly three fields like namely network administration, computer maintenance and programming. Computer Science and Information Technology both are courses related to the field of computers, but have different application. An individual who would like to pursue any of these course have to get an in-depth understanding of the application and fields of both these course. It is up to the students to decide on which course is better depending up on the individual preference and career goals. Most universities are providing B.Sc as well as B.Tech in both with B.Tech being better as it is a professional degree. Check the websites of some good universities offering courses and also giving good placements. Some of the universities also offer scholarships to meritorious students. As per my knowledge, there is not much difference. CSE may or may not include minor hardware part in the curriculum but major part is software. IT is all software.
