What is the difference between CS and IT?

Information technology (IT) may adopt the monikers information systems or systems administration. Essentially, IT professionals are the users of technology. Whereas, Computer Science(CSE) background person, i.e computer 'scientists' are focused on the theory of computational applications. That means they understand the why behind computer programs. Now as far as the studies are concerned, IT is more theoretical based. Whereas Computer Science includes almost all concepts needed from IT as well as programming skills required for working & creating real life technological tools. Also, I would like to add a lot of colleges are dissolving IT as an independent stream and merging its fundamental subjects with Computer Science Stream, as IT is considered to be a subset of CSE. And generally, for placements or higher studies, preference is given to a student from CSE background as compared to IT. This is because a student from CSE is presumed to be familiar with all concepts of subjects offered in IT but the same cannot be said for a student of IT. Good luck!
