What is the difference between engineering and technology

Technologyis in one sense "the practical application of knowledge, especially in a particular area." In this sense,Technologyis synonymous withEngineering. In another sense,Technologyis "a capability given by the practical application of knowledge." In this sense,Technologydescribes the product ofEngineering, rather than the engineering process itself. Engineeringis the application of scientific methods to solve discrete problems.Engineeringmay include the application ofTechnology, but is distinct in that one might solve a trivial engineering problem by applying only the scientific method. So while the two terms overlap substantially, they are distinct whereTechnologyrefers purely toresultsand whereEngineeringrefers purely toprocess.
