What is the difference between garment designing , textile designing, and fashion designing?

Hi, Garment designing comes under fashion designing only. So, I am telling you the difference between textile. Textile designing is all about designing textiles. In textile designing, you will learn about the possibilities of textile. You will learn how textile is used for different purposes and in different industries, but textile designing is more about home furnishing products. Generally, textile designers work as a print designer or graphic designer, but a small part of fashion designing will also be taught in textile designing while fashion designing is more about apparels, you will learn more about designing garments. Fashion designing includes more of pattern making, draping, stitching, illustrations, etc. Generally, fashion designers mostly work as apparel designers only, but they can also work as a stylist, print designer, illustrator, etc., but if you saw both of these courses according to the industry perspective then a textile designer can work as a fashion designer and a fashion designer can work as a textile designer.

Textile designers do raw material sourcing to production follow up for new development. They give instructions to weavers, knitters how to make the fabric they have designed. On the other hand, a fashion designer creates designs and patterns for clothin.

Hi Ravi, The basic difference between the three fields lies in the definition of three itself. In textile designing, you learn to design the textiles i.e any type of fabric (cotton, woollen, georgette, silk etc.). If you go by an option of textile designing, you shall have to carry on your study course with designing patterns on almost all type of fabrics. Here, you will not design the whole cloth or some wearable thing but you will design items like what should be the pattern on this particular Kurti that will make it look more good or what should be the colour pattern to highlight its grace. Garment designing and Fashion designing are much alike in nature, here you need to actually design different types of cloths like the ones you come across in a fashion show, innovating new trends and bringing out something different that is already ongoing like the cold shoulders nowadays in both the "tops" and "Kurtis" pattern, if you think your skills are sharp enough to bring out the all new trend of clothing you may go with an option of fashion or garment designing.

Hi Ravi, Fashion design is the art of application of design and aesthetics or natural beauty to clothing and accessories. Fashion design is influenced by cultural and social latitudes, and has varied over time and place.Garment design is a part of fashion design, however it only Focus on garments. Textile design is essentially the process of creating designs for woven, knitted or printed fabrics or surface ornamented fabrics. Textile designers are involved with the production of these designs, which are used, sometimes repetitively, in clothing and interior decor items.
