What is the difference between GATE total marks and GATE cutoff?

<p>The difference between GATE total marks and cutoff are as follows -</p><p><strong>GATE Total Marks-</strong></p><p>It is the total marks in GATE to refer to the maximum marks a candidate can score in the exam. The GATE exam is conducted for 100 marks (each paper).&nbsp;</p><p><strong>GATE cutoff -</strong></p><p>It is the minimum marks a candidate requires to qualify for the GATE exam. This can vary for different categories (General/OBC/EWS/SC/ST/PwD) and different branch or subject. Besides that, there are two types of cutoff- admission and qualifying.&nbsp;</p><ul><li>The qualifying cutoff in GATE is the minimum marks required to pass GATE. On the other hand, the admission cutoff is the minimum marks required to get admission to institutions like NITs, IITs, IIITs, etc.&nbsp;</li></ul><p>For example, let's consider GATE CSE paper</p><p>The total marks for GATE CS is 100 marks. But if we consider the above factors and look for the GATE cutoff for CSE (expected), then it will be as follows -</p><ul><li>General category- 30 to 32 marks</li><li>OBC - 27 to 29 marks</li><li>SC/ST/PwD - 22 to 23 marks&nbsp;</li></ul>
