What is the difference between M.Tech and MS?

M.Tech/ME is a course programme, whereas MS is a research programme. Theoretical differences:. M.Tech/ME has more coursework than project work, in MS coursework is minimal and large chunk of credits allotted to thesis. For example, in IISc, M.Tech/ME students take 12-16 courses whereas MS students take 3/4 courses.
