Mass communication is the study of how people and entities relay information through mass media to large segments of the population at the same time. In other words, mass communication refers to the imparting and exchanging of information on a large scale to a wide range of people. It is usually understood to relate to the newspaper, magazine, and book publishing, as well as radio, television and film, even via the internet as these mediums are used for disseminating information, news, and advertising. Simplest defintion: Mass Media is the collection of the means that big media outlets use to distribute their media content, so basically the different types of mass media; e.g. television broadcasting, print newspaper, radio broadcasting, and so on.
Mass communication, on the other hand, is the study on how these types work, basically, thinking about how radio or TV stations communicate their content with the consumer.
Clearly, these two concepts are not entirely distinct from each other.
