The main reason why postgraduate courses are named as PGDM is that when an institute is an autonomous body (not affiliated to any university) and conducts management courses, then such institutes cannot offer MBA degree. Even IIMs, XLRI's doesn't offer MBA degrees; they only give PGP Diploma. I hope this would suffice. All the best and God bless you.

MBA is a masters degree (higher qualification respect to graduation), PGDM (Post graduate diploma in management) is only a diploma course, not a degree where as MBA is a degree.
MBA is provided by universities and institutes with affiliations of AICTE, DEB, UGC ( University grant commission). XLRI provides PGDM course.

    Hi Prannay,
MBA is offered by 'Universities' or 'Colleges that are affiliated to Universities' or central body directly under the Indian Government while PGDM is offered by individual colleges such as IIM's.
    XLRI, Jamshedpur provide PGDM course.

Even IIMs, XLRIs don't offer MBA degrees; they only give PGDM, but it's not that affiliated institutes don't have PGDM, they also give that, nowadays, PGDM itself has its own importance, XLRI provides PGDM not MBA.
