What is the difference between MBA and PGDM?

Hi, Please note that MBA is a post graduate degree and is offered by universities, whereas PGDM is post graduate diploma and is offered by AICTE approved autonomous institutes. Both these course have almost the same course curriculum and are equally accepted by corporates for job so you may pursue any of these course. However if you wish to pursue Phd in future in that case you may consider pursuing MBA only. While taking admission your emphasis should be more on taking admission in good university or institute. Hi shweta,Your decision is good.MBA/PGDM has good scope.But remember MBA(or PGDM) has value only if you do it in good institutes.Admission in all reputed institutes are almost finished.So take wise decision.Next,MBA and PGDM are almost same.Little differences are 1.MBA is a degree and PGDM is a PG diploma.Both are same and PGDM is bit valuable than MBA for Industries/Corporate people.Because PGDM curiculum is constantly revised according to Contemporary Industrial needs. 2.MBA degree can only be given by UGC approved Government/Deemed universities like IIts,Anna u/niversity,Amrita,etc.,But PGDM can be given by any institute.So Institute reputation is most important for PGDM. 3.If you are doing PGDM please ensure whether it is AICTE approved if not dont go for it.It is worthless. 4.The value of PGDM can be found by the fact that even IIMs XLRi are giving PGDM(not MBA)So if it is from right institute it is equal to MBA only. 5.For higher studies like P.hDs some universities accept only MBAs not PGDMs.Some accept both.Ex-IIt-P.hD considers MBA=PGDM(only AICTE approved) The case is similiar for Government/Public Sector jobs also.Some accept.Some wont.But all private sectors accept PGDM. 6.Now some people are telling about Supreme court judgement regarding MBA and PGDM where PGDM is not worth.I dont know much about this judgement.But at any case,Corporates give more respect for PGDM than MBA. So,both are more or less same.Feel free to ask more doubts.

Hi, MBA and PGDM are both management courses yet the only difference is the approach to its curriculum. MBA give more focus to the syllabus framed by the university and no change is bought in for years. As for PGDM the focus is more on the current industrial demands and requirements. The curriculum of PGDM gets slightly changed every year. The flexibility provided by PGDM is the key success factor of the course. MBA only provides degree to institutes associated to a university, while PGDM is not affiliated to any university and has its own syllabus.MBA is offered by universities and colleges affiliated to universities whereas an independent institution offer PGDM. U can go for mba is reputed degree compare to pgdm is diploma type but mba is degree affilated to reputed university like fms delhi university,ggsipu,ignou, etc
