PGDM expands to Post Graduate Diploma in Management, the confusion starts when you see the term Diploma. Many students are of the view that it is a Diploma course and not a Degree, you are right to an extent that it is a Diploma. The main reason why postgraduate courses are named as PGDM is because when an Institute is an autonomous body (meaning it is not affiliated to any University) and conducts management courses then such Institutes cannot offer MBA degree. Even IIMs, XLRIs doesn't offer MBA degrees they only give PGP Diploma or PGDM since they are autonomous and independent bodies. Whereas, 2-year management degree expands to Mas

    Hi,
MBA and PGDM both are management courses.
MBA stands for Masters in Business Administration whereas PGDM stands for Post Graduate Diploma in Management. These both courses are of equal importance in every term of training, education and placement. If one is doing PGDM course from top management institute, then one can get good amount of package by best companies.
The duration of PGDM course is of 2 years and duration of MBA course is also 2 years.
Many top level institutes including IIM, XIMB, S. P. Jain, etc. are offering PGDM of 2 years. Thus it is proved that there is not much difference between these two terms in case of training,

MBA is a master degree and PGDM is a Diploma. A master degree has more credits, hence it has more value.

MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a Master's degree while PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) or PGDBM (Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management) is a Diploma certificate. So, if you get into a b-school that offers an MBA, you get a Master's degree. But, if you get into a B-School that offers a PGDM certificate, it is a Diploma certificate only. MBA degree can be awarded only by universities and colleges that are affiliated to the universities. On the other hand, institutes that are not affiliated to any particular university cannot offer MBA and hence, they have to give you a certificate I. e Diploma certificate.

    Hello
A PGDM is given by a college affiliated to the AICTE whereas an MBA is given only by an independent University. Both are considered equal in India; what matters more is from where is one pursuing it. For example, a PGDM from a top-ranked B-school is any day more valuable than an MBA from an average one, and vice-versa.

The main difference between MBA and PGDM IS that MBA course is mostly linked to the university that changes the syllabus once in 3-4 years. But PGDM is something that is linked to the college. College usually prepares question papers and does the correction. PGDM syllabus will be updated according to new changes in the field. Some of the private sectors prefer MBA and PGDM during Jobs and many of the government sector jobs prefer MBA.
