What is the difference between MBA and PGPM? Which one is better?

Simply put, Masters in Business Administration or MBA is a degree course offered by the Universities (both Government and Private) and Colleges affiliated to these Universities. Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a Diploma programme offered by B-schools/Colleges that are recognised by Government of India's nodal body for technical education - All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Now one must understand that there are Business Schools which are good for MBA and there are Business Schools which are good for PGDM also. Its not appropriate to decide which course is better. Student must decide only the Business School. Just like Universities how they have a value based on their reputation. It would be wise to choose a Business School, on several parameters (Placement, Faculty, curriculum, exposure, teaching methodology, fee, etc. ). As per my experience and observation, genuinely speaking, if you have both options to do MBA or PGDM from an average college or an average B-school, it would be better recommended toopt for PGDM. MBA is a degree which has to be offered by a university that has to be UGC or AIU certified. No autonomous institute can offer an MBA. It is similar to PGDM, the only difference is that in MBA the syllabus is quite monotonous and doesn't change. The syllabus is not dynamic or industry oriented. The same syllabus goes on year after year whereas PGDM is offered by Institutes certified by AICTE. PGDM is more industry oriented and the syllabus changes according to the demand of industry. Well frankly speaking MBA and PGDM is not the concern of any organisation hiring anyone for a job, what ids the main determiner is the amount and depth of knowledge and practical skills you have. It hardly matters whether you are an MBA or PGDM because although being a Diploma, PGDM if certified by AIU becomes equal to Masters and one can opt for PhD also.
