What is the difference between MBA (distance degree) and PGDM?

In India, as well as overseas, both MBA and PGDM courses are regarded as having equal value when it comes to career prospects. Having a PG Diploma instead of a degree is certainly not considered to be a drawback. In fact, it is the reputation of your university or institute and more importantly, your professional capabilities that truly matter. Academic Differences As mentioned earlier, while both courses aim to train you in management and administration, their approach differs significantly. While an MBA course tends to be more theoretical, a PGDM focuses on the technical aspects, providing exposure to real-life business situations. Also, a PGDM is very different than a one year PGP offered by many private institutes all across India. Another advantage of a PGDM is, as it is offered by autonomous institutes, the curriculum can be upgraded more frequently to include the new changes and trends in business management. However, if you wish to pursue higher education abroad, a PGDM is considered to be a Diploma, while a university-affiliated MBA is counted as a degree, giving you a better standing. Although, there are similarities between the curriculum of both, differences exist as well. A student pursuing MBA will be studying more of the theoretical aspects of management. An MBA institute will be following a fixed curriculum as it will be based on the university guidelines. A student pursuing a PGDM course will be gaining knowledge regarding building soft skills and the programme is more industry-oriented. An autonomous institute does not have to follow university standards, so it is free to change its curriculum according to industry standards and change in the business environment. The course will prepare you for a senior level position in a company.

Hi, MBA stands for Master of business administration and PGDM stands for Post-graduation Diploma in management. MBA duration is 2 years and PGDM duration is 1 year. After an MBA, you can go for higher studies like Ph.D and doctorate courses, but PGDM you can't apply for Ph.D. or doctorate courses that's the main difference.

Hello, In MBA distance, one need not go to college every day to attend lectures. Whereas in a full-time PGDM, one has to attend lectures every day in college.
