What is the difference between PGDM and MBA?

MBA is offered by 'universities' or 'colleges that are affiliated to universities' or central body directly under the Indian Govt. while PGDM is offered by individual colleges and IIM's. <p>These are the few differences between <strong>PGDM </strong>and <strong>MBA </strong>that will help you:</p><ol><li>Though a higher proportion of the syllabus is the same, there are a few dissimilarities that are important for you to know. MBA is more focused on theoretical aspects and is more exam oriented whereas <strong>PGDM </strong>focuses more on your soft skills and the practical knowledge.</li><li>Only the colleges that are affiliated to a university can offer <strong>MBA </strong>and the institutes that are not affiliated to any university are autonomous offer <strong>PGDM</strong>.</li><li>There is a difference in the fee structure of these courses. MBAs are more affordable than PGDM as the colleges have to charge as per the norms of the university.</li><li><strong>Syllabus of PGDM</strong> is highly flexible whereas it's not the same with <strong>MBA</strong>. The institute can change its curriculum based on the needs of the industry but in case of <strong>MBA</strong>, it takes a lot of time as it is affiliated with a university.</li></ol>

Hi Paresh, MBA is a post graduate degree, whereas PGDM is a Diploma. MBA are hence regulated by UGC where the syllabus may change after years, whereas PGDM are industry driven. Anything that is required by the industries is updated immediately by the institutes. IIMs provide PGDM and not MBA. The placements are evident of what to pursue. I hope this helps.

There is a slight difference in syllabus. But, it should not bother you. What important is from which college are you pursuing the course. You should concentrate on colleges rather than course.
