    The qualifying cutoff is used to determine whether a candidate is eligible for admission to any postgraduate programme such as MTech and PhD, while the admission cutoff is used to select candidates for admission to a specific programme in a particular institute such as  IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.

    Moreover, The qualifying cutoff is determined by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc),  Bangalore,  while the admission cutoff is determined by the respective institute.

  • GATE exams have two types of cutoffs: qualifying cutoff and admission cutoff. Qualifying Cutoff:

    • This minimum score requirement allows you to be eligible for appearing in the counselling process for admission to M.Tech, Ph.D., and other GATE-scored programs offered by participating institutes (IITs, NITs, IIITs, etc.).
    • Impact: Meeting the qualifying cutoff doesn't guarantee admission to any program. It simply makes you eligible to participate in the counselling process.

    GATE qualifying cutoff is the institute eligibility cutoff, and on the other hand, the GATE admission cutoff ensures a call for admission at IITs, NITs, IITs, and CFTIs. Check below in detail:

    GATE Qualifying Cutoff: It is the minimum mark a candidate must score so that he or she is eligible for admission. But this does not mean that a candidate is selected for admission. No, a duplicate GATE 2026 admit card will not be provided at the test center. Candidates must carry their own admit card along with the mentioned documents and items to the GATE exam center. IIT Guwahati will release the GATE admit card on January 2.

If the rough sheet gets filled, then they can ask for another one scribble pad after returning the previous one to the invigilator.
