What is the difference between the UPSC and SSC exams?

The basic difference between UPSC and SSC is that UPSC is conducted for group A and B level jobs, while SSC is mostly for group C and D level jobs. Some other differences are: 1. Competition: The SSC has more competition than UPSC. For example, the number of applications for CSE was around 8 to 10 Lacs as per data of recent years, whereas for SSC the number was more than 20 Lacs. However, UPSC is more difficult than SSC due to its syllabus and unpredictability. 2. Vacancies: SSC has a higher number of vacancies than UPSC. 3. Mode of exam: The SSC has made Level I and II of the CGL level exams online. UPSC still conducts pen-and-paper-based exams. 4. Ability: In the UPSC exam, writing and analytical skills are more important than in the SSC exam. 5. Stages: The first stage of both exams is the objective type, but UPSC questions are more descriptive. The interview stage has been scrapped in SSC but it still holds an important position in UPSC. The exam cycle is well regulated by UPSC compared to SSC. In SSC exams are often delayed or canceled.
