The basic eligibility to apply to the PhD course is a PG degree in the relevant stream with a 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA in BTech/ Mtech from any recognised university or 85% in BTech from any NIT/ IIT/ IIIT/ Other CFTIs. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, a relaxation of 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA will be considered. Further, the selection procedure includes appearing for the Institute based entrance exam and personal interview.

The eligibility criteria for PhD course admissions at the National Institute of Technology Sikkim for Engineering department is that candidates should have passed Bachelor (BE/B.Tech) and Master degree (ME/M.Tech) in relavant discipline of
Engineering/Technology with a minimum of 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA in both. Moreover, for Basic Science and English department, the eligibility criteria is that candidates should have passed master degree in relavant discipline of Science/English with
a minimum of 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA.
