The student must have done B.Tech. Candidates have to fill the application form first and then after that the candidates have to appear in entrance exam taken by Jamia itself. Then on the basis of merit the students can take admission in M.Tech of JMI.

The eligibility criteria are different for each specialization.

For pursuing M.Tech Environmental Science and Engineering candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Metallurgical, Mining, Agricultural Engineering or any other equivalent and relevant degree in Engineering and Technology only with not less than 60 percent marks in the absolute system or equivalent grade of 6.75 on a 10-point scale.
For pursuing M.Tech Electrical Power System Management candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with not less than 60 percent marks in an absolute system or a minimum grade of 6.75 on a 10-point scale.
For admission to M.Tech Control and Instrumentation System candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control or Electronics & Communication Engineering with not less than 60 percent marks in an absolute system or a minimum grade of 6.75 on a 10-point scale.
