    Hi,
    Scholarships are awarded on various criteria. The norms vary for different universities and programs.
    Generally they are as followed:-
    Merit scholarships: On the basis of overall academic achievement.
    Need-Based Scholarships: Designed to fund the less-fortunate students in their academic pursuits.
    Athletic Scholarships: Given to star athletes by some universities to recruit them for the athletic teams.
    School-Based Individual Scholarships: Specific scholarships relevant to the university.
    Full/Partial Scholarship : Most times students are given partial scholarships which normally cover simply living, simply books, or part of the tuition

    Here are some scholarships offered by IIMs to help a student with excellent academic background:
    1) IIM-A: One of the top management institutes in the Asia Pacific region provides a Need based scholarship to economically weak students in their PGP and PGP-ABM courses. The scholarship amount is decided on the basis of annual gross family income, parental asset ownership, number of dependents etc. Application for same can be made in the month of July. Apart from this, IIM A has also instituted income-linked fee waiver scheme to help students on economic grounds.
